Our region has been a vacation destination since the ancient times.
The Bay of Naples is dominated by our dormient volcano Mt. Vesuvius that buried circa 2000 years ago the nowadays famous Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Originally settled by Greek immigrants in the 8th Century BC, forming the first colony, then the Etruscans and the Romans.
The coastal area of Amalfi became a maritime power during the Middle Ages whilst Naples kingdom begin the 700-year of his history, which went from French Norman hands to German Hohenstaufen back to the French Angevins before being acquired by the Spanish house of Aragon. The house of Bourbon held the Kingdom of Naples until the time of Napoleon when it was ruled by Joseph Bonaparte.
With the arrival of Garibaldi in Naples in 1860, he ended of the Kingdom of Naples and united the Southern part of the country to the new Italian nation.
Because of its glorious history, our Region has a lot to offer to travelers, from fancy Capri and stunning Amalfi to the vibrant streets of Naples and the historical sites of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Paestum, just to mention the most significant.
Not to miss the large varieties of the dishes that are native to Campania and adopted by the rest of Italy, if not the world. We invite travelers to taste our special pizza with local tomatoes and mozzarella: the volcanic soils of Campania grow some of the best produce in Italy!
Campania’s most famous cheese is the Mozzarella di Bufala Campana made from the milk of buffalos.
